May 1, 2006 - WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced three separate voluntary safety recalls related to furniture.

    Back

Office Depot recalled approximately 6,000 computer desk and chair sets made in China and distributed by New Focus Marketing Corp. of Boca Raton, FL. New Focus Marketing received two reports of chairs breaking that resulted in minor injuries to consumers. Office Depot is offering gift cards for the full price of the desk set upon receipt of the chair. The sets sold for about $80 each.

Yamaha Corp. of America of Buena Park, CA, recalled about 176 cushioned benches sold with digital pianos, made in China and sold in January and February of this year for about $1,000. On some benches, one or more bench bolts do not meet tensile strength specifications, which can result in collapse of the bench while in use. Yamaha has received one report of a bench collapsing in Taiwan; no injuries were reported.

The third recall involved approximately 950 Tropitone Impression Side Chairs imported by Tropitone of Irvine, CA. The chairs, made in China and partially assembled in the United States, were mainly sold to commercial establishments, such as hotels, between October 2004 and March 17, 2006. Tropitone received three reports of the chair seat and rear leg separating. No injuries were reported.
